Are you thinking of remodeling but also don’t know if you might be moving in a few years? What’s the return on your finish is gonna be?
Generally, our updates and improvements look current for at least 5 years and things look really good to buyers about that long. So, if you’ve got a few years left in the home but really want a new bathroom or kitchen first? Go for it! Enjoy it! If you’re gonna be there 10 years or longer, just know that you’ll likely wanna do some refreshes in the future for resale at that time.
We find that thinking five years out is generally the most manageable anyway when it comes to thinking about where you’re gonna live and what’s right for your family. So, save your receipts. Be ready to pass them to attorneys during close especially for the improvements that have been paid in the last 12 months because you will have to provide clear proof of clear title and ensure there are no mechanics’ lanes. But otherwise, make those updates when it works for you.
